1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text records a website stores in your browser. They can keep a session secure, remember a preference, or help measure how a site is used. Local storage is a related browser feature that keeps data on your device but does not automatically travel with web requests.
2. How consent works here
Necessary storage is active because it remembers your privacy choice, saves learning data locally when you use those features, and supports the private QA login. Google Analytics is nonessential: its script does not load and no analytics data is sent until you accept analytics.
You may accept, reject, or customize the choice in the banner. You can change it later using the button below. Withdrawing analytics consent removes accessible Google Analytics cookies and reloads the page without the analytics tag.
3. Cookie inventory
| Name | Category | Purpose | Typical duration | Control |
|---|---|---|---|---|
pll_cookie_consent | Necessary | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics. | 180 days | Use Cookie preferences or clear site data. |
__client | Necessary, QA only | Clerk’s long-lived client token for approved login. | Browser/provider limited | Sign out or clear cookies; QA login will stop working. |
__client_uat | Necessary, QA only | Helps Clerk determine whether a session is current. | Provider determined | Sign out or clear cookies; QA login will stop working. |
__session | Necessary, QA only | Short-lived token that authenticates an approved session. | About 60 seconds; refreshed while the session is active | Sign out or clear cookies; QA login will stop working. |
__clerk_handshake | Necessary, QA only | Temporary Clerk authentication-handshake state. | Temporary | Clear cookies; QA login may need to restart. |
_ga | Analytics, optional | Distinguishes browsers for aggregate GA4 measurement. | Up to 2 years | Reject analytics or withdraw consent. |
_ga_* | Analytics, optional | Persists session state for our GA4 property. | Up to 2 years | Reject analytics or withdraw consent. |
Cookie lifetimes can be shortened by browser limits or provider changes. We do not use Google Ads, Meta Pixel, retargeting, or other advertising cookies.
4. Local storage inventory
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Control |
|---|---|---|---|
pll-course-progress-v1 | Remembers completed knowledge checks on this device. | Until deleted | Clear site data in your browser. |
pll-workbook-v1 | Saves workbook entries only in this browser. | Until deleted | Use “Clear workbook” or clear site data. |
Blocking or clearing local storage may erase your progress and workbook. The data is not synchronized to us or another device.
5. Third parties
Google sets analytics cookies only after consent. Review Google’s cookie information or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. Clerk uses necessary authentication cookies only for the approved QA flow; see Clerk privacy. The email signup form submits directly to our server. It does not load Elastic Email JavaScript, embed a provider form, or set a provider cookie. When the visible email consent is accepted, Elastic Email may use a remote image request and tracked redirect to record opens and link clicks. Those mechanisms operate in the email client, not through cookies set by this website. The Privacy Policy describes how the resulting events are used.
6. Browser privacy controls
Browsers let you view, block, and delete site data. Blocking all storage can prevent local progress, workbook autosave, consent memory, and QA login from working. Browser Do Not Track is not a uniform standard, so we do not interpret it as a cookie choice. Instead, analytics is denied by default for everyone. We recognize legally required Global Privacy Control signals for sale, sharing, and targeted advertising; we do not perform those activities.
